This month’s book reviews for Owlets are Monty Wins the Cup by Jake Sparks, and My Funny Family on Holiday by Chris Higgins.
Monty Wins the Cup – Year 1
Danny’s birthday begins with an amazing surprise. He receives a shiny silver key for his very own racing car – a car that runs on chocolate milkshake! Danny is very excited and enters Monty in the Tooting Wallop Road Race. Although a shadow is cast over the race when the sneering Hugo de Horrible arrives on the scene, Danny is determined to show what Monty can do.
This is a delightful story for young readers. It is an exciting adventure with colourful characters complemented by fantastic illustrations throughout.
Hooray! It’s holiday time and Mattie’s family are going to Cornwall. As usual Mattie has lots of things on her Worry List – worst of all, what if they forgot somebody? When they arrive at Sunset Farm there so many new things to see and do. Camping is great fun and when it gets dark after the barbecue on the beach, it is absolutely magical sitting by the fire under the night sky. But who is Mattie’s new friend? And what is the story behind the old photograph?
This story about Mattie’s family holiday is beautifully told. It can be enjoyed by boys and girls alike, on their own or reading together.
