This month’s book reviews for Owls are The Great Hamster Massacre by Katie Davies, and Jordan Stryker Bionic Agent by Malcolm Rose
The Great Hamster Massacre – Year 3/4
Anna and Tom have always wanted a pet so they begin a pester campaign. Their mother has her own reasons why she doesn’t want them to have a pet…but she finally gives in. Their delight in owning some hamsters soon turns to sadness and horror when they discover the massacre of the title. The story, seen from a child’s perspective, is both amusing and moving but this book is beautifully written throughout.
After a huge explosion, the near-lifeless body of Ben Smith is taken from the carnage. At this point Jordan Stryker comes to life, a technologically-enhanced version of the old Ben. With unbelievable powers, Jordan acts as an agent for the secret Unit Red. His mission, in an underground world of extreme activists, is to hunt the perpetrator of the crime that killed so many. Jordan tries to come to terms with the loss of his previous life, particularly when he meets up with his old friend Amy. Here is another action-packed page-turner of a book written by this wonderful author.
